a factorial experiment was conducted for two years in the mahidasht experimental station in kermanshah. the objective of this experiment was to determine the optimum time of nitrogen application on two sugar beet varieties from both, quality and quantity point of views. these varieties, 7233- a diploid and pp22 a polyploidy variety were grown and subjected to five levels of nitrogen application as follow : 1-the whole amount of nitrogen at planting time (t1). 2- the half amount of nitrogen at planting time and the rest after thining (t2). 3- one third of nitrogen at planting time, one third at first thinning and the rest, one month after thinning (t3). 4- two third of nitrogen of planting time and the rest at first thinning(t4). 5- one third of nitrogen of planting time and the rest at first thinning(t5). the results showed that there was no significant different between two varieties. the optimum time of nitrogen application for greater yield and quality of sugar beet was achieved when two third of nitrogen was applied of planting time and the rest and first thinning.
